Privacy Notice
Effective Date: September 3, 2026
Our Core Privacy Commitment
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party — ever. For registered users, we collect your email address solely for marketing communications (such as product updates and announcements). You may opt out at any time.
1. Introduction
Gambit Chess ("we," "our," or "us") operates the website at www.gambitchess.space ("the Service"). This Privacy Notice explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our Service. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with applicable U.S. privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
2. Information We Collect
2a. Information You Provide
- Email address — collected when you register for an account. Used exclusively for marketing communications (product updates, announcements, and similar messages).
- Password — stored in encrypted form. We never store plain-text passwords.
- Display name — optional name you choose during registration.
2b. Information Collected Automatically
- Game data — moves, results (win/loss/draw/resign), timestamps, and game identifiers associated with your account.
- Usage data — pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns, collected via analytics tools to improve the Service.
- Device and log data — IP address, browser type, operating system, and referring URLs, collected automatically by our servers and third-party services.
2c. Guest Users
If you play without registering, we do not collect any personally identifiable information. Guest game records are stored temporarily and automatically deleted 30 hours after the game link is generated.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
- Send marketing communications (product updates, new features, announcements) to registered users via their email address. This is the only purpose for which we use your email address.
- Maintain your game history and statistics across sessions and devices.
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the Service.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. We Do Not Sell Your Data
Gambit Chess does not sell, rent, lease, or otherwise transfer your personal information to any third party for monetary or other valuable consideration. This applies to all users — registered and guests alike.
California residents have the right to opt out of the sale of personal information under the CCPA. Because we do not sell personal information, no opt-out mechanism is required; however, you may contact us at any time to confirm this practice.
5. How We Share Your Information
We do not share your personal information with third parties except in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers — We use Supabase for database and authentication services. These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.
- Advertising — We display ads via Google AdSense, which may use cookies and similar technologies to serve relevant ads. Google's use of advertising cookies is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Legal requirements — We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Gambit Chess, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice on the Service before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. Data Retention
- Guest game records — deleted automatically 30 hours after the game link is generated.
- Registered user game records — retained for 180 days from the date the record was created, then permanently deleted.
- Account information (email, profile) — retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 8).
7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and analyze Service usage. Third-party services (such as Google AdSense and analytics providers) may also set cookies on your device. You can control cookies through your browser settings; however, disabling cookies may affect certain features of the Service.

If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe we may have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
10. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), encrypted password storage, and access controls.
